Hello, I’m Mariah
I’m a ceramicist living in New Jersey. I found my way to clay in 2018 after eyeing a tea set that I desperately wanted but then thought — hm, could I make that? The next week, I signed up for a ceramics course and the rest is history. Years later, that is still the question that delightfully pops in my head and keeps me inspired to make new pieces or try new mediums.
For the last few years I have focused my attention towards miniature sized vases, teapots, and jars trying to emphasize the intimate relationship we have with tiny objects; scale plays on our emotions and ideas of perceived value. We collect small things and the experience of holding something small and precious in our hands is radically different than holding the weight of a large vessel. Each miniature vessel is meticulously crafted and hand glazed with no vase being identical to another.
My work has been featured in the Philadelphia Airport, the “Steep” teapot exhibition at the Arts Council of Princeton, available for purchase at Eteria by Ursino Interiors, and many art markets across New Jersey.
I am currently involved in a screen printing residency with Flemington DIY, where I’m focusing a body of work towards the intersection of ceramics and printmaking.
